Red and a Tall Drink of Water In an obscured room two energetic sweethearts enthusiastically grasp. Outside a destraught man sits in a truck, drinking it up. The old tune " If I Didn't Care " , plays from a metallic radio. The alcoholic man bobbles with a weapon while he attempts to escape the truck. He opens the entryway of the truck, staggers, drops and breaks the jug of liquor, and the additional slugs spill onto the ground. The following scene is in a courtoom where an attorney is scrutinizing a man. " I was disturbed. I was befuddled and flushed. I for the most part needed to panic them ", Andrew Dufresne tells the attorney that was cross-examing him. " This was revenge", the legal counselor yells in his summation discourse. The decision is liable and the sentence is two life sentences, consecutive. A more established dark man is sitting calmly before his parole hearing. The five men on the board inquire as to whether he thinks he is restored and he answers, yes. " It's the Gods fair truth, " says Red. " I'm totally restored. " His companions, ask him what occurred at the conference. Red answers, " Same old poop, diverse day." He had been dismissed and denied parole once more. Outside in the activity yard a boisterous alarm moans. The imprisoned men all assemble to get a glance at the new detainees that have recently shown up. Reds' early introduction of Andy Dufresne was, " That one seems as though a firm breeze could thump him over. That tall beverage of water with a silver spoon up his ass." Little did Red know, right now, yet the two men would build up a solid bond. The common companionship Red and Andy would develop, caused them both to grow an internal quality which helped them manage jail life. The new detainees stand connected along with chains, terrified to death, before the Warden. He says, " I trust in two things, discipline and the Bible. Here you"ll get both. Put your trust in the Lord, your butt has a place with me. " That was the sort of demeanor Andy would need to live with starting now and into the foreseeable future, and this was only the start. " Andy hushed up about basically at first...Wasn't till a month passed by that he at long last opened his mouth to express multiple words to someone.
